How nice that the Hába Quartet Frankfurt asked Diego to do this production: charango and string quartet – an instrumentation that has long fascinated the instrumentalist and composer Diego.

The unique possibilities offered by the classical "string quartet" ensemble inspire the charango virtuoso again and again to seek the fusion of his little, unknown string miracle with the king of classical chamber music ensembles. In doing so, he lifts the charango onto the stage of classical tonal language, and you can hear that.

You can hear original compositions and arrangements from Diego's pen and of course Astor Piazzolla.

The CD "Canción para Federico" is a return from the well-travelled performer and composer to his musical roots in Argentine folklore - the world of chacareras, zambas, cuecas, guarañas y malambos; a music far away from the tango of the capital Buenos Aires from the interior of the Argentine provinces Cordoba, Jujuy, Salta.

In this homage to his own childhood and youth, the "Master of the Charangos" succeeds in capturing an enchanting musical atmosphere with his own lightness and joy of playing.

And for dessert: The world's first "Charango Suite with String Quartet" with the Hába Quartet Frankfurt.

The duo encontraste presents the listener with a synthesis of chamber music and South American folklore.

The tightrope walk between the rhythmic freedoms of South America and the classical sound form both the contrast and the unity of this unusual duo.

Freely improvised elements and the colorful interpretation of South American music from several generations and countries create their own world of sound.

The charango travels back in time, back to its origins. The meeting of the sounds of baroque plucked instruments and percussion with Diego's multi-faceted charango playing opens up a never-before-heard magical world for the listener, which successfully fathoms the degree between baroque interpretation and freedom of improvisation.

Historical, traditional and new come together.

The title "Charango nuevo" refers to a new playing technique developed by Diego Jascalevich, as well as to the new context in which the charango is placed here: an almost prototypical accompanying instrument of Latin American folklore meets instruments from European classical music.

Diego presents the charango as a solo instrument in several settings, in his own compositions and arrangements.

Toto Blanke and Diego Jascalevich met in 1995 and immediately discovered their common love for jazz, contemporary improvised music, South American folklore and tango.

The jazz icon Toto Blanke, who died much too early in 2013, immediately asked the charangist Diego, who had just arrived in Germany, to produce this CD.
